I've been working a little bit on the other site, but someone wanted a guide and said they'd pay for it. I will make the guide and gladly accept donations, please see the right hand side for donations. FreeNAS link added to main menu navigation on left hand side.

This may be the last......

August 19th, 2009 by Bill

Well, this may be the last entry on billrice.info . The other site is up and billrice.x10hosting.com . The best thing about it is, its free. I also am working on another project that will probably be a year or two in the making. Today is our 3 year wedding anniversary. That is the end of short incomplete sentences that make no sense, good day!

Transformers Revenge of the Fallen PC Game, Movie, and Things to DO!

June 29th, 2009 by Bill

DO NOT BELIEVE THE BAD REVIEWS! There are so many negative reviews about the latest Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen. It does have a plot and it is more interesting than the first one. I really like the fact that we got to see some more of the transformers history we missed in the first movie. This movie is not about PEOPLE. It is about Robots. If you want beautiful transformer killing in your face action, then this is THE Movie of the year. This is a summer block buster action movie with great special effects, not a period drama movie. Highly recommended to see at IMAX!

After listneing to Michael Bay commentary on the first movie, watching this movie, I was still having Transformer withdrawals and had to buy the video game for PC. MULTIPLAYER! Did I mention Multiplayer?? Yes you can play your favorite Decepticon/Autobot transformer and transform instantaenously. Jump/Climb on buildings and shoot missles at your enemies. I have only played it for a mere 20 minutes, but I already find it VERY addicting. I can't wait to see what it looks like on PS3/XBOX360. The graphics are great on PC (I have an 8800GT), but there are some minor changes they could make. I don't like the fact that when you go into a vehicle you can't slow down. The only way to stop is to transform into robot form. The PC version is a "port" from the PS3/XBOX360 version and I believe it may have lost some of the graphic touches on those versions. Still a GREAT game so far. Gotta go play more. So my advice is, SEE THE MOVIE IF YOU WANT AN ACTION PACKED MOVIE, and BUY THE GAME if you can't get enough of jumping, killing, transforming action!!

I need to do a couple things:
1.) Start Archiving old posts, add next/previous button
2.) Add subdirectories so I can start organizing my posts
3.) Learn up on some more PHP so I can do it DYNAMICALLY and EASILY!

We recently just got back from the Andrew Bird concert that was on Monday the 15th. That guy is a simply amazing true musician. I never really listened to much of his CD's because I thought they were mediocre, but his live performance was awesome. He can whistle so good and so loud it's almost as if its fake. He can play guitar and violin like no ones business. I highly recommend going to a live show if you get the chance, good stuff.

Michael Scott - Thats what she said

March 19th, 2009 by Bill

Michael Scott walked in to David Wallaces office, said he was upset and how he sacrificed things for 15 years, then said "I quit" and walked out.... What is going to happen now?!? It's probably a big joke! Michael Scott would never quit Dunder Mifflin.

And Obama is on the tonight show. It's in 20 minutes people, get ready.

Cisco2950 | DVC Creator | database driven

March 18th, 2009 by Bill

I happened to run across a Cisco 24 port 2950 for very cheap. I really don't "need" it, but I thought I could see if I could block multicast one one of the ports to keep my internet from dying. I currently have an old 2003 Linksys VPN router connected to my WRT54GS v2.1 with DDWRT installed. The WRT54GS is acting as a plain ol' wireless access point, DHCP is disabled. I've lost my nice DDWRT functionality, but I need the Linksys proprietary VPN capabilities. My PC has the Wireless/GigE port bridged so wired equipment can reach the outside world (No direct wired connection to my router yet, :*( .).

I also have run across Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars for $10 at BestBuy. What? 2 Games for the price of 1, and a $20 off coupon? It was something I couldn't pass up after playing through the first Crysis game. It is a really nice game that is one of those "musts". I would go almost as far to say that it is as necessary as Half-Life 1.

We are currently in the works in creating scheduling software at adtec, but I thought I would create my own little DVC scheduler. My XCP quickControl program is nice for multicast environments and I've been thinking of expanding it to a player/encoder control type software too. I do not want to make it too Clunky. It is going to remain specialized if possible.

The wife has been sick lately, so I have alot of things I'd like to do. Take care of the wife, update my program, learn some cisco basics, and play some games.

I also reset my page counter today. It was last "2899 hits since 03.14.2007" Not very many, they were probably all me...

FreeNAS Rocks

February 5th, 2009 by Bill

I've installed and configured FreeNAS v0.69 stable on my old PC and so far I've really like it. The speeds have been much faster than I expected, people online have said its slow.

Please note these are in MBps MEGABYTES, not Mbps Megabits.
100Mbps Ethernet Link:
FTP Averages around 11.5MBps = 90.4Mbps
SFTP Averages around 4MBps = 32Mbps (SFTP is slower due to encryption)
Samba averages around..

1000Mbps Ethernet Link:
FTP Averages around 27MBps = 216Mbps

Games / Spam / For Sale

November 16, 2008 by Bill

After all the free games I've played, I've found most free games are NOT worth playing. Do you know why the games are free? Because they are bad or buggy enough that it would be breaking the law to release it as a retail game.

I didn't realize until recently somebody was spamming my quote database. The spam problem was easily corrected, but I'd like for people to put up a quote if they like. This was obviously a spam program, that someone had quickly adapted to my page, but come on people! Have some decency. Again, I'll be taking it down if it happens again. No one can have fun on the internet anymore.

OK, So I've been trying to sell some of my old computer parts. No one has been biting on one of the forums I'm listing them in. If you are interested in building a very cheap computer or want to play some gears of war, make me an offer on one of the items listed. I'd rather sell it very cheap than throw it away. I may donate it if no one wants it.

So I've been thinking about games here lately after getting the new video card. I've picked up playing Battlefield 2 again, which I haven't done since 2005. A used joystick from Amazon allows me to now FULLY play the game, couldn't do Jets before.

I've also come across some FREE games online and some free Mods that require HL2, that I can play even though i don't have Half-Life 2. HAH. If you are an Nvidia user, you get Portal, HalfLife2: The Lost Coast, and HalfLife2: DeathMatch for free. Then install some HL2 mods and away you go. DIPRIP is awesome as well as paintball, just not many players on HL2 Mods :(.

I believe free games are going to start becoming more popular. I'm keeping my eye out for Battlefield Heroes soon!
    Battlefield Heroes

I just downloaded some totally free games.
    Combat Arms FPS
    Rising Eagle FPS
    Arch Lord RPG

I'll let you know how they are. I suggest you start getting some FREE games too.

XFX 512MB 8800GT will rock your socks off

    May 02, 2008 by Bill

I received my 8800GT video card on Tuesday. It barely fit into my microatx case, but it did fit. It is unbelievable. Does anyone remember when they went from their non-opengl video card playing Half-Life 1 and then plugged in their TNT2 ? Half-Life 1 was like a new game with Open GL compatible graphics at 1024x768 or even higher resolutions compared to software based renderer. The 8800GT is the same step. I went from a TNT 2 32MB, to Geforce 2 GTS 64MB, to Geforce 6600 256MB, to Geforce 8800GT 512MB. The 8800 has been the biggest leap since the TNT2 in graphics. The Geforce2 and the 6600 all did graphics OK, the 6600 just had better frame rates on newer games I guess, of course with newer direct x compatibility. The 6600 still not too good on games like Battlefield 2, etc. The 8800GT is amazing in Call of Duty 4, Battlefield 2, Company of Heroes. You can put video settings at high in every game and it plays back BEAUTIFULLY. AMAZING. It's UNBELIEVABLE. You MUST GET ONE!!! Here is a screen shot.

    Ebay makes me sick

    November 04, 2007 by Bill

Why do people go to retail stores, buy Nintendo Wii's, post them on ebay, and say "SOLD OUT EVERYWHERE!!! Buy my Wii I just purchased at a retail store. I purchased it today! " How stupid can you be. They aren't sold out everywhere. Every joe blow is going to target and buying them off the shelves so normal people can't buy them. Well the good thing is, Joe Blow is still not making much if any off of these misleading schemes. Please stay away from ebay on buying hard to find things. I went to target and got mine, they had 15 and no one was there buying them. Please don't pay more than you have to, even if it is for your best kid.

    Merry Christmas

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. A holiday designated to celebrate the birth of Jesus. And though it may not be the actual day and it may be a pagan holiday, people should still try to remember what its about. Most children know who santa is, but few know jesus.

    December 16th, 2006 by Bill

The site is slowly getting updated. I am working on it only when I have time. I am doing things with downloads as priority because that is usually the most important thing. Having and giving access to the most utilities I can find. They are tested and approved.

Keep checking back. One day you will see a big change of info.
